Exclusive Interview: GenoDa1

Who inspired you to make music?

Ive always been in love with music since i could remember. Ever since i was a baby I was listening to music pulling out pots and pans and drumming on them like they were a drum set. My parents, really my mom got me into music because she would play all of Michael Jackson’s albums, Prince, The temptations, snoop dogg and of course Spanish music as well like Marc Anthony, Celia Cruz and many more. But my mom wanted me to go the sports route and its the reason why i started making music late in my life and if i could rewind time i would of definitely started music way earlier. But the artist growing up also inspired me to make music like Jay, Kanye, wayne, nas, 50, drake, cole and kendrick and many others. List goes on and on.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

Its really unpredictable honestly. I just know that all my music comes from actual stuff ive witnessed and been through and most importantly it comes from the heart. So i would describe my music as emotional with a lot of feelings and vulnerability but i also have my music for the clubs. So i would definitely label my music as unpredictable.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

J.cole, Drake, Kendrick, 50, Jay, Lil Wayne and kanye west are really the main ones. Travis Scott and Pharrell as well. Theres a lot of artist i want to collaborate with in the future.

If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?

Drake or Kanye

What is one message you would give to your fans?

LOVE YOURSELF

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

I feel like it’s impacted it in a good and bad way. Good thing is is that you can reach more of an audience not only in the country you are from but around the world and of course streaming because its more people that can access your music. But the bad thing is you don’t really know whats real anymore as far who really has “clout” and if the streams you’re getting is 100 percent real for example. I really wish we can go back to the CD days but I understand everything evolves and changes.

Which famous musicians do you admire?

I admire J.Cole a lot. I love how he makes amazing music, sells millions of albums is loved by everyone and still remains humble.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

“You gotta spend money to make money”

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

I would change this streaming stuff and go back to the CD days. I don’t know it was just something about buying a CD that was way more exciting then just buying it on a music app and downloading it. Its not the same experience.

What’s next for you?

Drop a music video to one of my singles off my latest project “INFRARED” and start working on a bigger project. I got a lot of great visuals and more music coming out very soon.
